Sage Patanjali's Yoga Sutra-s

The Yoga Sutra treatise is divided into four chapters (padas), Chatper 1 (51 sutras) known as Samadhi, Chapter 2 (55 sutras) known as Sadhana, Chapter 3 (56 sutras) known as Vibhuti, Chapter 4 (34 sutras) known as Kaivalya, as shall be explained below.

Introduction

The Yoga Sutra-s of Sage Patanjali are the systematic exposition of the Yoga philosophical system which forms one of the six systems of the Shad-darshana-s (the six orthodox systems of Indian philosophy). It explains both the philosophical aspects of Yoga as well as the most important issues that govern the practice of Yoga. As is well known, all the orthodox Indian philosophical systems have their fundamental source works in the form of Sutra-s (broadly translated as aphorisms). The Yoga Sutra is also the most fundamental and principal text of Yoga philosophy. It is divided into four Pada-s or chapters that deal with important basic issues concerning Yoga philosophy. The subject matter of the four Pada-s are given in the subsequent portion of this teaching package.

Any person who wishes to attain spiritual fulfilment as mentioned in the ancient Indian scriptures has to invariably engage in the practice of Yoga directly or indirectly. Such a practice is based on firm theoretical foundations which are espoused in the Yoga Sutra-s of Patanjali. It is recommended in the Indian tradition that these Sutra-s have to be completely memorised along with their authentic meanings so that the spiritual aspirants can always fall back on his memory to properly think about, contemplate and follow the instructions given in this text.

The current tool enables all persons to accomplish this task in a relatively easy manner.
