Haṭhayogapradīpikā of Svātmārām

The Haṭhayogpradīpikā is an authoritative popular treatise on Yoga which has been guiding different kinds of Yogin-s in India and also in other countries. The pure and the unselfish alone will have the keenness and the power to extract the pure drop of immortality from the compound mixture in which the mystic author of the treatise has so beautifully combined the two systems of Yoga – Haṭhayoga leading to Rājayoga. These two systems are interdependent.

Introduction

The Haṭhayogpradīpikā is an authoritative popular treatise on Yoga which has been guiding different kinds of Yogin-s in India and also in other countries. The pure and the unselfish alone will have the keenness and the power to extract the pure drop of immortality from the compound mixture in which the mystic author of the treatise has so beautifully combined the two systems of Yoga – Haṭhayoga leading to Rājayoga. These two systems are interdependent. Union of Jivātman and Paramātman is what is understood by the word Yoga. As this knowledge is very sacred and sublime and not indiscriminately imparted to all men by its custodians; only those who have passed through the most terrible ordeals are considered as fit to receive it.
The acquisition of knowledge of this science is fraught with abnormal difficulties and perfectly qualified teachers are rare; obscurities in the treatment of the subject in written work call for verbal explanation by a Guru.
In view of the combined advantage of the two systems – Haṭhayoga and Rājayoga, and for the enlightenment of men thirty for knowledge, the great Yogin Svātmārām compiled this text.
This package shall go a long way in hand holding the students / researchers to lead on the path of error-free practises that will take the aspirer to Rājayoga that ultimately takes him to the highest Puruśārtha.
